You could be forgiven for believing that the petal shaped areas look higher than the background curves and this is simply because of the differentiation in the size and shape of squares, caused by your curved lines. This effect is very useful when you are trying to create an image that draws the viewer to different areas of the Zen doodle.

This introduction of curves is very valuable to use in Zen doodle because it helps you to go a little further than simply drawing flat Zen doodle. Experiment with it. Instead of drawing straight lines to create tiles, try using curved ones. Then fill in the black and see what impression this gives you because you really can create wonderful effects using this method.
